In the "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" why does twain reintroduce Tom at the end? What role does he play?

It's just my opinion, but I'd ume it was to bring the story full circle- Huck goes off on his Mississippi adventure, nearly dies, and ends up back in Hannibal with Tom. It's a circle-of-life kind of thing.
