What do oil companies do with all the profits they make?

When oil prices go up it usually means cut down on demand for oil, but if we need oil we really can't cut demand. Should the profiting company help the government because the people are suffering from the high gas prices. It seems the government milks money from the hard worker and gives it to the lazy skell. Is this justice in america in the year 2007. I see a great depression or a great war coming if this holds true. If the hard working cl gets sucked into flipping the bill, we will be more hostile in our daily endeavors and be fed up and lose confidence in our country and revolt, but a revolt will never come all at once. People really need to be offended or hurt to revolt and most have just a higher living expense (not so severe compared to disease or death). Why is our country so out of control and will our government ever work honestly with the hard working people in this country or will they milk us like cows.
